255th Birmingham Guides & 25th Birmingham Scouts Joint Trip

November 2, 2016 Posted by Lynne Alexander - No Comments

Another very successful joint weekend on Tuptonia for 255th Birmingham Guides and 25th Birmingham Scouts.

A group of very excited Guides and Scouts, four of each, met their leaders on Friday evening. After kitting up with buoyancy aids and having their safety talk, we set off towards Kingswood Junction where we moored overnight. After a few locks everyone was soon into the swing of things and were quickly organised into two teams – two Guides and two Scouts in each. They soon became very efficient and knowledgeable about manning the locks.
We set off on Saturday morning down the Stratford Canal – working well in the two teams and everyone having a go at steering the boat. There was great excitement as we neared Edstone Aquaduct and even more excitement when we went over it ! Soon after this, we turned ready for our journey back. We moored at Lowsenford on Saturday night and then did the rest of the journey back to Swallow Cruisers on Sunday.
The Guides and Scouts had a great time and all learned a lot about steering the boat, manning the locks and teamwork – all of which they faced with great enthusiasm. They now all want to know when we can go again !
