A first for Tuptonia!

At the beginning of May a group of 5 Rangers and 3 Leaders from Northampton left the Grand Union canal at Gayton Junction heading for Northampton – the first time any of us had navigated this stretch of canal. It’s clearly not used a lot and is extremely quiet but it was interesting to see parts of Northampton from a different perspective, especially the Express Lift tower, nicknamed by Terry Wogan as Northampton’s lighthouse! The arm finishes at the edge of Northampton and turning requires a brief exit onto the river Nene by the Carlsberg brewery.

Most of the girls had never been on a narrowboat before and none of them had slept overnight on one nor operated locks, of which there are many, but they were quick learners and by the end of the trip they were experts at it, a good time was had by all!
